Miami Beach Police Department Retirees was formed in the 1990’s to serve as a way for the men and women of the force on “The Beach” to keep in touch with each other after they leave the active roster. In addition to regular social and business meetings. the organization publishes a monthly newsletter, hosts an annual meeting, participates in regional and national activities and prints a membership directory each year.

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the Passing of our Brother Officer Chuck Hayes (The Legend) who passed away today at Home with his Wife MaryLou and Daughter Robin present.
Chuck was a Fixture in our Miami Beach Police Family joining the Department in 1961 and Retiring in 1993. Chuck then continued to Serve as a Reserve Officer for another 20 years. Many recall the 30+ years Chuck worked at Fedco on Washington Ave catching Shoplifters. Chuck truly was a Cops-Cop having trained so many Generational Policemen. Like many, I worked with Chuck on the Midnight Shift and he was the go-to-guy for Traffic Accidents and catching Bad-Guys. His dedication to the Police Profession was unrivaled.
Our Condolences go out to Chuck's Family and Friends on his passing. He was a fighter until the end and we will miss our Friend. His love of being a Miami Beach Police Officer and Familyman was his life. It was so shown in his Character and in his Life.
Funeral Arrangements are PENDING and will be shared as soon as possible.

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I share the passing of retired officer and current reserve officer, Kenneth “Kenny” MacLeod
Officer MacLeod succumbed to his injuries earlier this evening following a motorcycle crash on Interstate 75 at Royal Palm. This is a devastating loss for our department and for all who had the honor of knowing and serving alongside Kenny. His dedication to service and his continued commitment to this profession exemplified the very best of who we are.
Please keep Kenny’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. I also want to remind everyone that support is available. If you are struggling or need to talk, I strongly encourage you to reach out to our outstanding Peer Support Team.

Today, we mourn the loss of retired MBPD Sergeant Edgardo (Ed/Eddie) Avila, who lost his battle with cancer at age 78. Some may not be aware, but his daughter also lost her fight with cancer earlier this year. Ed was born in Cuba, on February 8, 1947, and later played professional baseball for the Mets, Pirates, and Giants, until a broken ankle ended that career. Ed changed careers and served with pride in various assignments within the MBPD between 1974 and 2003, though most of us will probably best recall him wearing his marine or motorcycle unit uniforms. He had a passion for fishing and golfing during his time off. After his distinguished 29-year career, he retired and continued to reside within Miami-Dade County, where he enjoyed time with his family and friends, fishing/boating, and golfing. Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Raquel, son, Jonathan, and grandson, Jack.
